The Road Ahead

Nearly 100 people joined us for The Road Ahead 2008, Transportation Solutions' ongoing series to bring to dialogue cutting-edge and practical topics and research in transportation options that balance economic, environmental and health considerations to meet today's and future needs.

The 2008 program was presented on Friday, January 25 at the JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek.

This year’s program, Unlocking the Parking Puzzle, addressed how governments, communities, businesses and developers can reexamine and capitalize on existing resources to maximize parking, transportation and other efficiencies to benefit quality of life and economic vitality. Scott Bernstein, President of the Center for Neighborhood Technology in Chicago, was the keynote speaker and was joined by a panel of local governmental, developer and transportation experts.

Mr. Bernstein's presentation is available in PDF (8 parts) below.  If you would like a PowerPoint version, please email info@transolutions.org

Lead Presenters

Scott Bernstein is President of the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) in Chicago, which develops resources to promote healthy communities that have clean, livable, sustainable environments; strong, local economies; and empowered residents and institutions. Mr. Bernstein has years of expertise in the academic and policy communities, focused on sustainability and transportation. His approach is embodied in CNT’s “Hidden Assets” framework in which urban areas re-examine existing resources through a combined economic, environmental and efficiency structure to identify ways to build on what already exists to assure robust quality of life and economic vitality. Mr. Bernstein provides expert support and best-practices for why and how urban areas can determine, organize and use their own hidden assets. He will apply the Hidden Assets framework to parking in the Denver area and empower the audience to uncover their locale’s overall assets, craft approaches to maintaining and enhancing the value of parking assets, and to capture the value of these assets for communities.

Addtional Presenters

A panel discussion chaired by RTD Director Bill Elfenbein included representatives of the private development community and local jurisdictions.
