Transportation Benefits for your Employees
Did you know that you can offer your employees a pre-tax transportation benefit?
You can generally exclude the value of transportation benefits that you provide to an employee during 2014 from the employee’s wages up to the following limits*:
Exclusion from Wages
|Commuter Highway Vehicle(Vanpooling)
and/or Transit Passes
|Vanpooling: Any vehicle that seats at least 6 adults that you reasonably expect that at least 80% of the vehicle mileage will be for transporting employees between their homes and work placeTransit Passes: A transit pass is any pass, token, farecard, voucher, or similar item entitling a person to ride, free of charge or at a reduced rate.||
|Qualified Bicycle Commuting||As long as the bicycle is regularly used for travel between the employee’s residence and place of employment, reasonable expenses include: the purchase of a bicycle, bicycle improvements, repair, and storage.||$20/month of qualified biking|
