Transportation funding crisis

I’ve had a number of thoughts and ideas for ways to address our current transportation funding crisis. Here are a few that I've been considering:

We should be focusing the limited resources that we have on congestion mitigation projects rather than expanding roadway capacity.
A key lesson learned from FasTracks and T-REX is that people favor a multi-modal solution.
Whatever solutions are recommended to solve this crisis, they will likely require education of the general public about the transportation funding shortfalls and show them specifically what they will get for their money.
We should work more with the private sector to solve this crisis.
