2008 Successes

The Cherry Creek Bike Rack

  • Continued operation and promotion of Colorado's first indoor bike parking facility
  • Hosted third annual Commuter Challenge event and increased participation by 14% to 209 cyclists.  Participating riders made more than 1700 trips over nearly 16,000 miles, preventing the creation of nearly 14,000 pounds of air pollution. 

Bike to Work Day

  • Welcomed nearly 400 commuting cyclists to one of the area's largest and most successful breakfast stations - the Bike Rack's Breakfast Station Block Party
  • Hosted breakfast station at the University of Denver, offering breakfast and bicycle registration assistance to nearly 100 cyclists

University of Denver

  • Continued operation of the on-campus Transportation Center, distributing information and transit passes to campus population
  • Re-branded the Commute Club, an incentive program for staff and faculty, and implemented a new online tracking process
  • Expanded the student College Pass Program to include ELC students
  • Managed transit pass programs for 2300 staff and 8300 students
  • Participated in DU events, including HR Benefits Fair, Campus Safety Fair, and orientation activities to promote alternative transportation use to and from campus

Cherry Creek North

  • Continued offering transit pass subsidy to all Clayton Lane employees, and began offering subsidized passes to CCN retail employees

The Road Ahead

  • Hosted the fourth annual event, featuring how governments, communities, businesses and developers can reexamine and capitalize on existing resources to maximize parking, transportation and other efficiencies to benefit quality of life and economic vitality
  • Attracted nearly 100 attendees

Designed to Ride

  • Continued maintenance of approximately 50 bus stops in the Cherry Creek area
  • Presented on the project at the annual ACT Canada Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Partnerships

  • Collected nearly 100 bicycles for children in need through the Share a Cycle program with Campus Cycles, partnered with Denver Kids, Inc and the Park Hill Bike Depot to distribute bikes
  • Completed the second full year of facilitation of the Transportation Solutions Community Council, a coalition of representatives from the neighborhoods in our service area; increased membership to 20 active neighborhood groups
  • Wrapped up a Safe Routes to School grant, working with 3 local elementary schools to encourage safely walking and biking to school; created walk/bike maps specific to each school

In the Community

  • Promoted alternative transportation options at numerous community fairs
  • Participated in Earth Day events at Janus Investments and Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, promoting alternative transportation options for commuters
  • Kicked off Smart Moves Along Colorado Boulevard --working with 4 office towers, including 220 individual participants in the Colorado Boulevard corridor to reduce traffic gridlock.  Participants reported a reduction of 152,988 Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT), translating to the prevention of 1,300,433 pounds of air pollutants
  • Worked with the City of Glendale to promote alternative transportation use at the Fit Beats Metro Mile
  • Worked with developers in the Cherry Creek area to create TDM plans for developments, reducing the impact of new developments on area traffic
  • Executive Director served on the Denver Parking Commission
  • Executive Director served on the Denver Living Streets Task Force; staff also participated in events surrounding EPA visit to Denver to examine Speer-1st Avenue-Leetsdale corridor for technical assistance grant
  • Staff served on the Sustainable Transportation Working Group for the 2008 Democratic National Convention
  • Staff served on the Denver Bicycle Initiative (b-cycle)--the Denver bikeshare pilot program
  • Worked with Boulder Carshare and stakeholders in the Denver area to re-brand the organization into e-Go Carshare; expansion into Denver is planned for Spring 2009
  • Collaborated with Downtown Denver, Cherry Creek North BID and local taxi companies to create a flat-rate taxi fee between downtown and Cherry Creek
